Paul E. McKenney is a Distinguished Engineer at IBM's Linux Technology Center, where he works on parallel realtime synchronization primitives in the Linux kernel. Prior to that, he worked on a parallel UNIX database-server operating system at Sequent Computer Systems, and on Internet and packet-radio congestion-control protocols at SRI International. He holds more than 20 patents (including basic patents for RCU) and has published more than 30 papers. He holds B.Sc. degrees in Computer Science and in Mechanical Engineering and an M.Sc. degree from Oregon State University (1981 and 1988), and a Ph.D. from Oregon Health and Sciences University (2004).
