The 2009 MiniChess Tournament was held Saturday 13 June 7:30 PM PDT. There were 14 entries, of which 9 competed in-person, two were run by proxy (thanks much to John and Vladimir for taking this on), and three competed remotely. The tournament was conducted by Bart Massey with the help of the onsite participants, and was mediated by IMCS. The majority of entries were students in Bart's CS542 class, but several participants were ex-students. All entries were from the Portland area (sadly).
The tournament winners were:
- Max Goodman's "havoc": overall winner, CS542 winner (TechShop gift certificate)
- Tad Fisher's "twiddler": second place CS542 (Powell's Tech gift certificate)
- Vladimir Solmon's "vladtest": third place CS542, judge's prize winner (FOB hat)
- Kenny Graunke's "kayden": external (non-CS542) winner (Powell's Tech gift certificate)

Unfortunately, much of the tournament record was inadvertently erased. However, the scores after four rounds were.

After 5 rounds jjweston, jennifer, and orb were eliminated.
After 6 rounds tarzan, daesung, james, and cheebot were eliminated.
After 7 rounds djr-player and josh were eliminated
Two more rounds were played to achieve the final result. In these rounds, the power-protect format was abandoned and all the players played each other.
